Gift Baskets For Children – Kids Love Fathers Day and Graduation Gifts-Help them by getting yours early!
Father’s day thoughts bring mixed emotions for me, because my dad is gone . . .
You would think the moon and sun sat on our heads when dad was around.
Father’s Day lets me remember dad with the gift of flowers. I won’t go to a grave, where he lays stone cold – Not even since he was buried. I go to a bird sanctuary or a lake or river or a meadow and I take flowers with me and leave them there. That’s where my dad would be. Dad would be outside with nature and enjoying the gift of time with us.

Gift Baskets For Children – Gift Basket Ideas & Tips!
I’ll stray away from the traditional
ideas of gift giving for children and suggest something different. How about a gift basket for children that actually saves you time and money? You know what I mean. The days of just giving one gift per child is gone. You know it and I know it.
I don’t know about you, but things have changed since I was a kid. My childhood years were filled with running around and dreaming of the things I knew I deserved, like a bicycle, some things to build like Lego, and maybe a coloring book or two.
Children in my era didn’t have the luxury of receiving gifts like the XBox or the Nintendo Wii. I’m actually thankful for that because of what I see today with children’s development. In short, they spend too much time behind a computer screen and not enough time out there where we all were 30 years ago.
Something I’ve been doing for years is putting together gift baskets for children. These will come at Christmas time, birthdays, graduations and even when one of them loses a tooth. Ten years back this was easy. We had more time and things weren’t so expensive.
You can’t just pass of a basket full of articles and think it’s going to be welcomed with big smiles and wild hugs. Nope. You actually have to make these Gift Baskets cool… and I mean really cool. There is plenty of help out there. You as a Father or Mother just has to get computer literate and seek the advise of a frugal shopper.

Gift Baskets For Children-Children Love Gift Baskets
No matter what, Gift Baskets For Children are the answer because we all have realized at some point or another that our kids aren’t as easy to buy for as we thought- especially as they go through different phases and age groups.
Children are ultimately specific about what they like and want. If you step outside their guidelines they have few inhibitions about telling you what they think. If they like it you will hear loud and happy exclamations of joy and if they don’t . . . well, you know what that sounds like and don’t need a reminder.
Gift Ideas to Help Keep Your Friends and Family Happy
Babies like shiny, colorful and often noisy and you could probably agree with all of that, but would most likely leave out the noisy part. Remember that when you are creating a gift basket for your relative or friends children. I used to think noisy was great, until I babysat my nephew and his parents sent him over to my house with all the noisy toys I ever got him. I found out years later that they put those “special” gifts away and saved them just for when he came to my house. I guess that made coming over to my house an even BIGGER treat (for him). Oh boy do we have some great stories to share in our family!
When you are ready to actually create special Gift Baskets for Children, keep these guidelines handy.
Even if you are rushed at the last minute to grab just anything, try your best to find out what the interests and hobbies and special likes of the child are.
Some gifts are really only pieces of a complete gift and require a main component to make them work. Try to avoid those things if the person you are buying for doesn’t have the main part – like an iPod docking station, but the gift receiver doesn’t have an iPod. Or, the most common thing is a game that requires batteries and there are no batteries to go with the gift so that parents are left completing your gift. And that may be an unfair hardship on their pocketbooks if they hadn’t planned on it.
My nephew was 9 years old on his birthday and we bought him the Building toys that he loves, but we got the ones for 4-8 year olds. He announced to the entire room of friends and family that he didn’t want that gift because it was for a ‘baby’ and he was nine years old now, not a ‘baby’ anymore. We discovered that age appropriate is something to consider and watch closely on gift packages.
Gift Baskets For Children-Simple Gift Basics
Children enjoy these gift baskets because they are entertained for hours, they are fun, and they usually teach children something educational. And to top it off it gives kids a gift that they can share with the adults they admire and want to spend time with too.
For more specific ideas, head over to the internet and take a look at some of the gift suggestions offered there. Sometimes the things that we often overlook for gift ideas are the ones that are the most dated. For example, kids will play for hours using their imaginations and plastic figurines, or kitchen sets, or pretend kitchen appliances. Really, the list is endless, but if you take just a moment and put on your thinking cap, I’m sure you will be filling your wagon up with some truly great Gift Basket ideas!

Age Appropriate Gift Baskets
Everyone loves a great gift, but what about those tender ages when it’s not that easy to pick gift baskets for children. Starting from birth, we go through some incredible development phases.
Just what do you get for a 11 year old – the new ‘tween’ ? Or how about a cousin who you see once in awhile, but not often, who is having a baby shower? What about the neighbor who is having the birthday party? And then there is the graduation gift for the nephew who you used to let mow your lawn.
If the gift were age appropriate that would be terrific, but what does that mean anymore? You haven’t been around a teenager since you were one yourself, and the last baby you held was that nephew who is graduating, and who has birthday parties anymore, anyway!
I know it’s a dilemma, but here are some tips to help with some of those youthful gift ages:
Break Gifts Down By Age And Category
1 – The 11 year old. “Tweens” are probably the most challenging to find great gifts for, but you can still find something they will like if you snoop around. My favorite for this is to hang out in the young person section of the store and ask young people about that same age what they like. The answers are fun and spontaneous and their parents even want to get in on your game and help you find things to go into your gift baskets for children. If you feel strange hanging out and talking to strangers then you can go to the parent of the child, a friend with same age kids, or even go online and type in the word 11 year old gift and see what you come up with – It ranges from $1 and up. I found out that stickers and glitter are still popular this way and created an entire basket made up of all kinds of hair, face and nail items that was a real ‘hit’! Popular and faddish are what they like and these two things have been in style for generations!
Baby Gifts
2 – The baby Shower gift for the cousin whose home you haven’t been in. Hmmm . . . this one is easier than it looks! Whoever is throwing the shower will have an idea and since babies really don’t care, you are getting a gift that ‘mom’ would like. Think of the mother and maybe you’d do well to create a gift basket for a mom and combine it with a baby gift. Themes can be catchy – like matching bathrobes and shower toys – special soap and a bath glove for mom to give baby a bath with.
Birthday and Surprise Gifts
3 – So your neighbor is inviting the neighborhood to her child’s 8-year old birthday party. Do you even know the neighbor? If you do then you probably already have some ideas, but if it’s for the boy who broke your window last summer then I suggest a basket for him of a catcher’s mitt full of candy. That ought to keep him busy and away from your window. Really, though, think about wandering through the toy aisle and asking some questions or if you have a mutual friend, call them too. The difference between eight year olds and eleven year olds is huge – it is miles apart – so please don’t even think about getting these age groups the same thing. You can’t go wrong with a basket for a child of this age of colored pens and pencils and crayons and coloring books and art supplies to fill it up with!
Graduation Or Special Achievement and Thank You Gifts
4 – It’s graduation and by now the tastes of the young have graduated too – as well as the costs of a gift for this age group. If you know their size (and taste) in clothes, they always like clothes, but since this is someone who you actually had a relationship with while they were growing up, you might take this opportunity to say, “Thank You AND Congratulations! Boys and girls both like watches, you could pick a theme that has to do with responsibility and achievement. Girls like to write in journals, coupled with a watch and engraved pen, this makes a great two-some gift basket and boys like music, so since mowing the lawn is not high on the list of ‘fun’ you might pair an IPod with a watch. If you focus on fun, and thoughtful you should have a hit! They will know by your actions that you appreciated them and respect their achievement.
Identifying type of gift helps you stay focused in your Gift Baskets search. Happy hunting!

Gift Basket Considerations
When you are thinking about Gift Baskets For Children, you may be considering a pet gift basket. Children are probably some of the most enthusiastic pet lovers on this planet! All ages love to stop and pet a dog on the street when their tail is wagging, but a child will squeal in glee as they literally RACE to pet an animal. The animal, of course, is most often left to fend off the frenzied attack from a cowering position behind your legs.
Responsibility is a big step for a child so you may want to hold off on this gift baskets for children idea until your child is a little older and understands (ALL) the aspects of pet care.
The best place to start, if you think your child is an appropriate age to take care of a pet, is at your own local pet store to see what kinds of animals your child is interested in. You may be thinking a cute dog and they may be thinking cute lizard – miles apart. You can also go visiting your friends homes who have pets and see how well your child bonds with different animals.
For reasons of simplicity, I’ll keep this article focused on dogs and cats. In any event you really need to see how your child gets along with any pet before you make that purchase. Your gift basket can still be a surprise if you plan it right.
Don’t Forget These Things!
If you get either a dog or a cat, please help your child understand that there are a few basic rules they must respect in taking care of a pet. Too many pets are left abandoned outside for days with a choke chain and bowl of food because this wasn’t taken into consideration.
1 – Daily food and clean water – EVERY SINGLE DAY
2 – Daily exercise
3 – Regular vet checks and nail trimming and tooth brushing
4 – Daily potty breaks or potty training and regular emptying of litter boxes
5 – Pet Licenses
6 – What to do with your pet at vacation time
7 – Spay or neuter?
Some Gift Basket Basics
Now that we have the basics covered, here is what you can do to make your pet Gift Basket – $5 Off any Pets Gift at GourmetGiftBaskets.com! Please use coupon code Pets5, for children an exciting winner!
For whatever pet you (they) choose, there will be the basic items that those pets need. These all fit great in a pet food or water dish (or aquarium). Dogs like to play with balls – any kind will do! Cats love things they can chase, like beams of light, feathers, string, simple things you can buy or make. Cats must have a litter box and scratching post and dogs need a bed to sleep in – preferably their own and beside your bed, not in it. Cats need a bed too, but they are less interested in one you buy than in the couch with the back side facing the afternoon sun. I know it sounds cruel, but you may consider your furniture in the purchase of a kitty and teach them to claw a special post instead of the side of the couch. Training books are ideal when it comes to teaching your child how to train a pet. You may also look in your community for a group that teaches children how to train their pets. When we were little my brother won several awards in 4-H classes for training our dog. Other children’s groups may also have these types of pet training classes or give awards rewarding good pet behavior – like girl scouts or boy scouts.
Gift Baskets For Children-Let Them Pick The Name!
Let your child pick the name of their pet for their pet gift basket. Maybe a unique name like Evika (Which means life). Get a special collar then hold off on having it engraved until this important task is done.
Whatever pet you end up with for your gift baskets for children, the experience will last a lifetime for both your child and you.
I’ve heard it said, . . . “that a dog teaches a child fidelity, perseverance, and to turn around three times before lying down.”
